In the heart of the Himalays lies the tiny country of Bhutan, also referred to as the ‘Land of the Thunder Dragon’ and the ‘Last Shangri La’. This Buddhist state has recently emerged from self-imposed isolation to embrace tourism, but carefully. Nestled between China, India, Nepal and Bangladesh, this land ranges from dense tropical jungle in the south to moderate mountainous zone in the center and inaccessible snowy peaks in the north. The Bhutanese are religious, hospitable and kind and a trip to their magical kingdom, especially to experience one of the colorful festivals and trek to a mountainside monastery, is truly unforgettable.
