FRENCH POLYNESIA

An easy eight-hour flight from Los Angeles (and just a three hour time difference!), the Islands of the French Polynesia are the stuff that honeymoon dreams are made of – the overwater bungalow was invented here. The main island of Tahiti is the international entry point, and home to some fantastic black sand beaches. Most travelers’ head to the outer islands like Bora Bora, Moorea, or further afield, to the untouched beauty of the Tuamotus or wild Marquesas. The lagoon encircling Bora Bora is possibly the world’s most beautiful when it comes to hues of blue. And whether you stay in an overwater bungalow on a private island off the island or in a luxury resort on the mainland, this destination is all about playing in the water: there is excellent diving and snorkeling with sharks and manta rays or opportunities to race across the lagoon on a jet-ski.
