With more than 25 separate nations, speaking everything from English to French to Spanish to Dutch, the islands of the Caribbean are a varied lot. Where you’ll go will depend largely on budget and what you are looking for in a holiday, as all the developed islands have some sort of turquoise water and white sand beach combination. But for an active vacation, consider destinations like Jamaica, the Dominican Republic or St Lucia, that offer activities beyond the usual sunning and water sport combo. For pure relaxation on one of the world’s most beautiful beaches, Providenciales in the Turks and Caicos is an obvious choice, while if you want to party with the rich and famous, head to St Bart’s.
