With gorgeous landscapes, fascinating cities, lots of beer and 2,000-years of sometimes complicated history under its belt, Germany is one of Europe’s top tourist destinations. And there is much to explore. The capital of Berlin, home to the iconic Brandenburg Gate, is history packed, but also modern sophisticated with a buzzy art, music, festival and nightlife scene. While Munich is famed for its cavernous beer halls, like the Hofbrauhaus, which dates back to the 16th century, as well as giving birth to Oktoberfest. Venture between the big cities and you’ll find ethereal countryside, home to the Black Forest and the North Sea dunes, to craggy Alpine peaks and delightful small spa towns.
