MYANMAR

There are places in Myanmar that still resemble the romantic images of Southeast Asia painted centuries ago: a land where rice paddies are still farmed with water buffalo, many people still dress in traditional longyi and monks are treated like celebrities. In the country’s largest city, Yangon, you’ll find boisterous markets, lakes and parks, and the gilded Shwedagon Pagoda- home to 6th century Buddhist relics. Outside Yangon, take a trip to Bagan, where 4,000 ancient temples rise up from a giant, treeless plain, creating a spectacular sight. And pay a visit to Inle Lake, which is 13.5 miles long and 7 miles wide, home to floating villages, water gardens and Buddhist temples built onto the islands scattered around its mirrored waters.
