Composed of seven emirates, most travelers know the UAE for Dubai. That emirate and city is famed for its ultramodern architecture, like the 830m-tall Burj Khalifa tower, which dominates the skyscraper packed skyline; its over-the-top resorts, like Atlantis, The Palm, built on a series of manmade islands just offshore; and a luxury shopping and wild nightlife scene. Abu Dhabi, on an island just off the mainland, is the UAE’s capital city and another emirate. The country’s commerce center is also home to the impressive Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque with room for more than 40,000 worshipers, lavish hotels, massive shopping centers and an architecturally impressive skyline.
